This data would be organized in a contingency table and the hypothesis to be tested is of no association or dependence in the population between possession of attributes A and B. Few examples from different fields follow.
a) A travel agency may want to know if there is any relationship between clients' gender and the method clients use to make an airline reservation.
b) An accounting firm may want to examine the relationship between the age of people and the type of income tax return filed by these individuals.
c) In a medical study, a pharmaceutical company may want to know if the success of a drug used to control high blood pressure is dependent on a person's weight.
d) A marketing research company may test if a customer's choice of cereal is in some way dependent on the color of the cereal box.
e) A political analyst may want to know if there is an association between political party affiliation and support for a particular amendment that is to appear on the next election's ballot.
