Answer to Question 1

The extra chromosome 21 is attached to another chromosome such as chromosome 14 . Actual total number of chromosomes is not increased but the resulting chromosome is a composite of both 21 and 14 . The affected person has genetic material equivalent to 47 chromosomes. This may result from an accident in the germ cells of one parent during gametogenesis or one of the parents is carrier of the abnormal chromosome, in which case parent carrier has only 45 chromosomes, resulting from the fusion of chromosome 21 with another chromosome

Answer to Question 2

Both conditions give a similar clinical picture with pain in the lower quadrant of the abdomen.
Meckel's diverticulitis is a small, tubular outpouching in the distal ileum from the remnant of the vitelline duct. It has the same epithelial lining as the small intestine, which at times may consist of acid-secreting gastric mucosa. If infected, it may cause the same signs and symptoms as appendicitis.
Appendicitis is obstruction of the appendiceal lumen, typically by bits of fecal material. This causes appendiceal secretions to accumulate under high pressure, compressing blood supply and impairing viability. The bacteria invade the devitalized wall, causing inflammation.
