In insulin shock, insulin is excessive as opposed to insufficient; the onset of symptoms is rapid as opposed to gradual (i.e., over several days); the skin has a cold sweat and is pale as opposed to dry and flushed; respirations are normal or shallow as opposed to slow and deep; reflexes are hyperactive as opposed to depressed; blood pressure is normal or slightly elevated as opposed to low; there is no glucose in the urine as opposed to a large amount; blood glucose is very low as opposed to high; blood bicarbonate and pH is normal as opposed to low; there is no acetone in blood and urine, but both are present in the blood and urine with ketoacidosis.
