ANS: C
Thrombopoietin binds to its ligand Mpl on the membrane of platelet precursors and plays a critical role in the production of platelets.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
PF4 appears to be unique to platelets and is found in a-granules. None of the other proteins listed are unique to platelet precursors.
