Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Macrophages do not activate adipose cells. They perform all the other listed functions.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
Erythropoietin is the cytokine that has its primary effect on red cell production. It is synthesized in the kidney; thus when the kidney is diseased, erythropoietin synthesis is decreased. This decreases red cell production, leading to anemia.
