Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
The lateral or medial surface of the bottom of the heel should be used for capillary puncture on a newborn. Puncturing all the other sites poses a significant risk of hitting bone, resulting in serious injury and perhaps infection in the bone.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
The lateral separation of the two eyepieces is adjusted by using the interpupillary control. When properly adjusted, only one image is clearly seen. The focus control sharpens an image. The condenser knob adjusts the position of the condenser, and the field diaphragm controls the amount of light coming through to the slide.
