RATIONALE: The fifth and seventh cranial nerves are related to the oral cavity. The trigeminal nerve innervates the upper and lower jaw and the facial nerves innervate the facial muscles, salivary glands, lacrimal glands, and the sensation of taste on the anterior two-thirds of the tongue.
