Common causes of PVCs include acid-base imbalance, acute coronary syndromes, cardiomyopathy, digitalis toxicity, electrolyte imbalance (e.g., potassium, magnesium), exercise, heart failure, hypoxia, an increase in catecholamines and sympathetic tone (e.g., emotional stress, anxiety), medications (e.g., sympathomimetic drugs), normal variant, stimulants (e.g., caffeine, tobacco), valvular heart disease, and ventricular aneurysm.
