Answer to Question 1

A
Verify that the patient has been NPO for at least 8 hours. Evident respiratory distress will increase risk, and the procedure may have to be delayed. This test is contraindicated in patients with severe upper gastrointestinal tract bleed, Zenker's diverticulum, or a large aortic aneurysm.

Answer to Question 2

aseptic technique
Numerous studies has confirmed the effect of the use of aseptic technique in the insertion of urinary catheters in reducing the rate of catheter associated infections.
