The surgeon will implant surgical plates and screws to stabilize the bone and promote remodeling. External fixation would not be indicated for a hip fracture. A total right hip arthroplasty is not indicated for a hip fracture because the total hip would not need to be replaced. An arthroscopy is diagnostic, with repairs done after diagnosis, but would not be indicated for a hip fracture.

In external fixation, pins are placed through the bone above and below the fracture site to immobilize the bone. The external fixation rods hold the pins in place. Internal fixation devices involve a surgical incision with the placement of plates and screws. The incision is then closed and the devices are not visible externally. Buck's traction is a traction device used for fractured hips. Wiring is not a surgical procedure.
