1. Pathological fractures are associated with hyper-parathyroid disorder, because of calcium leaving the bone.
2. Muscle weakness occurs with hyperparathyroidism because of the increased serum calcium levels.
3. Tremors occur with hypoparathyroidism because of low blood calcium levels. Muscle tremors can lead to tetany.
4. Polyuria is a symptom of hyperparathyroidism .

1. Serum electrolytes will not help identify a tumor.
2. Urine studies do not diagnose a tumor of the thyroid gland.
3. If a CT were ordered, it would be of the head and neck.
4. In a thyroid scan, the client is given iodine and the scan picks up a cold spot, or area that does not absorb the iodine, which is diagnostic of a tumor of the thyroid.
