A client with candidiasis is prescribed Nystatin oral suspension. What should the nurse instruct the client about this medication?
 
  1. Drink the medication through a straw.
  2. Dilute the medication with water.
  3. Swish the medication throughout the mouth and swallow.
  4. Swish the medication throughout the mouth and spit out the excess.

2. Nystatin should not be diluted.
3. Nystatin is intended to be taken undiluted and swished in the mouth to provide a local, rather than systemic, effect.
4. Nystatin should be swallowed after swishing in the mouth.
