The features of an effective group include an informal, comfortable, and relaxed atmosphere; goals, tasks, and objectives that are clear and understood; leadership and member participation; goal oriented; open and two-way communication; appropriate decision-making procedures; cohesion; conflict tolerance; and shared power.

There are three types of commitment: affective, normative, and continuance. Affective commitment is an attachment to a profession and includes identification with and involvement in the profession. Affective commitment develops when involvement in a profession produces a satisfying experience.
