The client with a history of back pain should be instructed to perform the exercise in the standing position only. Doing the exercise on the hands and knees may aggravate back strain and cause pain. Pregnant clients should be instructed to avoid exercising in the supine position after the first trimester because it could hinder uterine blood flow and harm the fetus. Pregnant clients should be instructed to avoid hot tubs because of the possible teratogenic effects of hyperthermia on the developing fetus.

The nurse should use a supportive, nurturing approach because it is important for victims of interpersonal violence to feel supported and cared for in order to develop trust and work through their issues. Educating the client on how to avoid future incidents of violence is not therapeutic and implies that the incident might have been the client's fault. Distracting the client will prolong the grieving process, and the client will be left with unresolved conflicted feelings. Maintaining objectivity and providing short responses discourages communication and does not offer the client the empathy and support that are needed.
