Answer to Question 1

Correct Answer: 4

The nurse would hyperventilate and hyperoxygenate when suctioning the endotracheal airway because the catheter occludes the airway and prevents air inflow during the procedure. When suctioning the oral cavity, oropharynx, or nasopharynx, the nurse would have the client take a deep breath and cough if she were capable of cooperating.

Answer to Question 2

Correct Answer: 4

The oral cavity could be suctioned using clean technique, and use of the Yankauer suction tube is usually performed this way. The other areas are best suctioned using sterile technique.
