Grading is a medical procedure that classifies how well differentiated the cells appear under a microscope. Normal cells appear well differentiated and characteristic of the tissue type from where they originate. Poorly differentiated cells lack evidence of specialization and appear immature and embryonic. The greater the number of undifferentiated cells, the poorer the prognosis.
