Answer to Question 1

The vital function of the nephron is to remove the waste products of metabolism from the blood plasma. These waste products are urea, uric acid, and creatinine, plus any excess sodium, chloride, and potassium ions and ketone bodies. The nephron plays a vital role in the maintenance of normal fluid balance in the body by allowing for reabsorption of water, some electrolytes, and pH or acid-base back into the blood.
