Mary Jones is a coding supervisor who is reviewing the coding of her employees. On a record coded by one of her employees, she sees that code 33508 is reported. Explain why this is not correct.

Question 2

Dr. Long completed a repair of an atrial septal defect and a ventricular septal defect with a patch closure. Select the appropriate code(s) to report these procedures.

Answer to Question 1

Code 33508 is an add-on code and must be used in conjunction with codes 33510 to 33523. An additional code needs to be reported.
