Warren is 62 years old and recently had shingleswhich he caught when his granddaughter had chickenpox. The pustules associated with shingles cleared up a week ago, but Warren is now experiencing pain that he describes as burning and throbbing. The pain is in the area of the trigeminal nerve. The area is extremely sensitive to touch, which is a problem because it also itchesso the extreme sensitivity makes it difficult to scratch the itch.
 
  Dx: Postherpetic trigeminal neuralgia
 
   The patient was given prescriptions for Tramadol for pain and Neurontin for the neuralgia.
