Providers may accept or not accept Medicare assignment. However, there are some services that require acceptance of assignment. These include:
 Clinical diagnostic laboratory services
 Medicare patients who also are eligible for Medicaid
 Ambulatory surgery centers
 Method II home dialysis supplies and equipment
 Physician's assistants, nurse midwives, nurse specialists, non-physician anesthetists, clinical psychologists, and clinical social workers services
 All physicians, non-physician practitioners, and suppliers must take assignment on all claims for drugs and biologicals furnished to any patient enrolled in Medicare Part B.
