The nurse is aware that utilizing the proper size cuff is important for an accurate assessment of the blood pressure. For this reason, the nurse chooses a cuff that:
 
  1. Is somewhat smaller than the circumference of the child's left arm.
   2. Is somewhat larger than the circumference of the child's right arm.
   3. Fits snugly, but not too tight around either arm.
   4. The cuff should fit 40 percent of the upper arm between the acromion process and the elbow.
