It is important to respect this cultural characteristic and to see it as a strength, not a weakness. Although stoicism may be present in any family, Mexican-American families tend to be more expressive. Considering docile children as weak is a characteristic of American Indians. Although there is a trend for everyone to embrace more health-promoting lifestyles, it is more prominent in Anglo-Americans.
