Indomethacin or ibuprofen lysine, administered intravenously, are used in the treatment of PDA in premature infants. Indomethacin and ibuprofen act to inhibit COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes and therefore inhibit the production of PGE2 and promote the closure of the ductus.
