Answer to Question 1

D
If both parents are carriers, there is a 25 percent chance of having affected offspring. A recessive disease can only be phenotypically expressed when two copies of the mutant allele are present; therefore, both parents must equally contribute to this outcome. Because there is a risk of having an affected offspring, prenatal screening may be performed. A disease passed from generation to generation occurs because of autosomal dominant inheritance.

Answer to Question 2

D
The most appropriate intervention by the nurse would be to suggest that the woman wear well-fitting support bras, use ice packs, and take analgesics. Applying tight binder and asking physician for drugs to suppress lactation are not appropriate actions in part because 3 days postpartum is too late for lactation suppression medications, which are seldom used today. Using an electric breast pump to empty milk or manually expressing milk frequently will increase the client's breast engorgement by stimulating milk production.
