During the course of the grief response, shock and denial are followed quickly by anger, which is directed at anyone deemed responsible that the client easily identifies with, the person she has the most contact with especially in labor and delivery: the nurse. Resolution may take days, months, or years or may never occur. Acceptance, like resolution, usually does not occur during the brief labor and delivery period, but rather takes days, months, or years. Guilt is not identified as a specific stage of the grieving process.
