Mittelschmerz is lower abdominal pain that occurs for some woman at the time of ovulation. The basal body temperature increases prior to ovulation and decreases 0.2 degrees F. after ovulation. Cervical mucous threads increase to 12 to 24 centimeters and become thin, clear, and copious when ovulation occurs. Cervical mucus becomes thin and clear when ovulation occurs.

Immediately after delivery the fundus is usually located at the level of or 1 to 2 fingerbreadths below the umbilicus. The uterus at the level of the symphysis pubis occurs during involution after the 9th day postpartum. It is between the umbilicus and symphysis at days 3 to 5 postpartum. The xyphoid process is at the distal end of the sternum.
