Answer to Question 1

ANS: C

For the last two decades, women in New Zealand have been able to access continuity of care from a lead maternity care provider as part of publicly funded maternity services (the majority choose midwives for this role). This is not the case in Australia; however, recent legislative changes are moving towards making this model available to more women.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: False

Referral for consultation does not imply that the clinical responsibility for the woman's care will be assumed by the secondary service. Also, midwifery care continues (for many women) after referral, even if clinical responsibility has been transferred to the obstetrician.
