Answer to Question 1

ANS: C
Cramping abdominal pains, often called afterpains, reflect contraction of uterine muscle fibers to prevent excessive blood loss. They are related to the release of oxytocin and increase during breastfeeding. The pain usually lasts 2 to 3 days only.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C, E, F
Because crying is often a late sign of hunger, parents should be taught to recognize hunger cues before the infant is crying lustily, which may lead to the need to calm the infant before feeding can begin. Legs may kick and fists may be clenched. Rooting, sucking, hand-to-mouth activity, crying, and alertness are clues that the newborn is hungry.
