Answer to Question 1

ANS: B
Because of the potential for injury to the urethra during circumcision, or penile edema from the procedure, it must be documented that the newborn has voided after circumcision before being discharged home. The Plastibell usually falls off in 4 to 8 days. A drop or two of blood may still be noted in the diaper after discharge. The yellow exudate is part of the normal healing process and does not begin to appear until several hours after circumcision.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: A
Injections to newborns are given in the vastus lateralis muscle, where muscle development is adequate. Other sites are not appropriate.
