A firm-fitting bra will support the breast, but not prevent mastitis. The breast should not be bound. Warm packs before feeding will increase the flow of milk.

An abnormal odor of the lochia indicates infection in the uterus. The infection may move to the episiotomy site if proper hygiene is not followed. The abdomen becomes distended usually because of a decrease of peristalsis, such as after cesarean section.
