In order to help people make healthy lifestyle changes, the changes must be culturally congruent and acceptable. Forcing an incongruent practice makes it highly unlikely to succeed. Education is important, but it must be done in a culturally congruent way. Pathophysiology and statistical knowledge, by itself, is not likely to be beneficial.

Meeting with a community leader is always a good idea to learn the viewpoints of the community, but unless ethnocentric behaviors change, it is unlikely that the refugee community will increase its use of the clinic.
