Answer to Question 1

A tariff is a tax placed on imported or exported goods. Import tariffs are taxes placed on goods coming into a country; export tariffs are taxes placed on goods going out of a country. Tariffs directly raise a product's price. They help ensure that imported products are not sold for less than local, or domestic, products. They make imported products less attractive to purchase.
