Answer to Question 1

Resumes show employers how well applicants do their own marketing. It is easier to project personality through a resume. Resumes provide more opportunities for applicants to detail their skills. Applicants control the content of a resume and can use it to highlight and reinforce their best skills and qualities.

Because resumes vary widely, employers may find it harder to compare information and candidates. An incorrectly formatted resume may be rejected, even though the applicant has the required skills. Employers may prefer the consistency of job applications.

Answer to Question 2

Recent education and work experiences have a greater impact than past experiences on whether an applicant is qualified for the job in question. Employers are most interested in what applicants are currently doing and have done in recent years.
