When networking during a job search, you should use a soft sell approach. Avoid demanding, high-pressure tactics to gather information. Listen well, and show appreciation for any assistance your contacts offer. Do not ask for a job. Instead, explain your interests and background and ask for suggestions, including position information, possible organizations, and names of others who may have useful information.
