The Andean Common Market (AnCom), known previously as the Andean Pact, was established in the 1970s and renamed as the Andean Community in 1996 . In addition to eliminating trade restrictions (tariff and nontariff) within the Andean region, AnCom also provides for uniform external tariffs and rules for foreign investment. This may be found in the Common Markets section (4-2d).
