When both the main effects and interaction of a mixed factorial design are found to be significant, the results are interpreted in the context of _____.

In a mixed design factorial ANOVA, if a significant F is found for the main effect of a variable that has four levels, how can we tell which means are significantly different from one another?

Multiple comparison tests are needed to determine which means are significantly different and which are not. The significant F ratio only indicates that there is a difference among the means somewhere; it doesn't indicate where.
