All people who assist the experimenter must observe the ethical principle of confidentiality. They may not be given much information about the nature of the hypothesis because it might affect their behavior while assisting the experimenter. They are not required to sign informed consent forms.

One way to disguise the true purpose of an experiment is to have a confederate behave in a certain way. The real participants think the confederate is another participant.
