Answer to Question 1

A

Answer to Question 2

The major time-related factors that threaten within-subjects designs are history, instrumentation, maturation, and regression toward the mean. In each case, an outside factor can cause the participants' scores to change from one treatment to the next. As a result, there are two explanations for why the scores may differ from one treatment to another: the difference may be caused by the treatments or the difference may be caused by an outside, time-related factor.
