Much social interaction depends on how we wish to impress those who may be watching us. Life is often separated into a front stage--the part that we wish people to see--and a back stage--that part which we keep hidden from view. Behavior on the front stage is designed to convey a particular impression to those who may be watching. Back stage interaction may be much different from that which is presented to the viewing public.
