Folkways are norms for behaviors that are not considered very significant, such as ways of dress or common courtesy. Mores are norms that are considered of greater moral significance; examples are prohibitions against adultery and the mistreatment of children. Laws are often based on mores, but are consciously created, have been clearly defined and are officially enforced. However, not all mores become laws, and not all laws are based on mores.
