People tend to think the two terms (social status and prestige) are synonymous.Sociolog ists use social status to refer to the position that someone occupies.Prestige is an attribute associated with a position:A lot of prestige, as with a judge. A little prestige, as with a waiter. No prestige, as with a criminal.
