Answer to Question 1

ANSWER:
The first misconception would probably be that Binet's test was created to measure intelligence. Binet was hired by the French government to develop a test that would identify children who were lagging behind where they should be in school. The Army Alpha test had two areas of concerns: the test items and the testing conditions. The test used examples that many recruits were not familiar with, and many times the tests were given in crowded, noisy environments. Another misuse concerns the test used on immigrants to the United States who arrived at Ellis Island. Especially for those who could not read, speak, or understand English, the intelligence tests they took tended to greatly underestimate their intellectual capacity.
