Equally important, many husbands and wives who lived in these traditional households found them unnecessarily stifling. Since that time, we have seen the rise of a diverse array of family forms, including dual-earner, single-parent, same-sex, and single-adult homes, which now vie with breadwinnerhomemake r households for social and cultural support.
