Answer to Question 1

According to conflict theorists, the ruling class is made up of people whose backgrounds and orientations to life are similar: they attend the same prestigious private schools, belong to the same exclusive private clubs and are millionaires. These similarities result in people automatically sharing the same values and goals. They also share a common interest in solving the problems that face large businesses. Because they are able to ensure that the United States adopts policies that they feel will solve the problems of large businesses, this powerful group sets the economic and political conditions under which the rest of the country operates.

Answer to Question 2

Gender stratification refers to the ranking of people based on their biological sex. This ranking results in males and females having unequal access to power, prestige, and property, which either enhances or limits a person's access to a society's resources.
