Answer to Question 1

When patterns of prejudice and discrimination arise, they become incorporated into the values and norms of the group. Prejudice and discrimination toward particular groups then become legitimated, transmitted to new members through the socialization process, and frequently internalized. People also tend to adopt the prejudiced beliefs, values, and norms that are considered appropriate in the groups to which they belong.

Answer to Question 2

A spilt labor market is considered to be a key factor in much racial, ethnic, and sexual antagonism because the presumed biological differences between the two groups can serve as the focus of discrimination and can be justified on racist grounds. If people believe that members of a particular racial group are lazy or untrustworthy, then this is a rationale for excluding them from jobs that demand hard work and trustworthiness.
