A high school football player is unable to move his arms and legs after being tackled during a game. He is wearing a helmet and shoulder pads. His airway is patent, he is breathing normally, and he has a rapid radial pulse. You should:
 
  A) leave the helmet and pads in place and begin immobilization.
  B) remove the pads but not the helmet.
  C) remove the helmet but not the pads.
  D) ask the patient to remove his helmet and pads so you can assess him.
