The nurse is preparing an infusion of dobutamine hydrochloride (Dobutrex) for a client weighing 176 lbs. The order is to administer 1 mcg/kg/min then titrate up to 5 mcg/kg/min. The infusion bag contains 1000 mg/L.

2.4 mL

Global Rationale: mL/min = 1000 mL/1000 mg x 1 mg/1000 mcg x 1 mcg/1 kg x 80 kg/1 min x 30 mins/1 . Multiply the numerators and then divide by the denominators. The client will receive 12 mL in the first 30 mins of the infusion.
