Calcium originally has 2 valence electrons but if those two go away would the new diagram have 0 or 8 electrons? It came up on a test and I put none but other people said they put 8.  Thoughts?

Ca+ ion As looses Two Electrons so than its Outer shell Consists of 8 electrons.... the 4th shell Will be Finished in Excited state... in Ca+ ion have only 3 shells

hope It will help...
