Answer to Question 1

Women who chose careers in science or mathematics cited three sources of influence:
(1) early and consistent success in science and mathematics courses
(2) getting encouragement from parents and teachers to pursue a career in math or science
(3) having respected models available whose behavior they could observe and imitate

Answer to Question 2

Intrinsic motivation can be undermined by
a.rewarding performance when interest is high
b. using tangible objects to reward performance
c. holding rewards out prior to the task as an incentive
d. forcing students to compete against one another for a limited supply of rewards
