Answer to Question 1

Managers delegate for a number of reasons. The most important reason is that delegation gives the manager more time to spend on the most important tasks and decisions. Another reason to delegate is that it teaches subordinates how to make their own decisions and to deal with the consequences of those decisions. Finally, delegation may lead to higher quality decisions that result in greater customer satisfaction because lower-level employees are closer to actual customers and therefore are more aware of their needs.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
